Sixty-three 91ÖÆƬ³§ students have earned the HubSpot Social Media Certificate.
Students enrolled in the online section of Comm 4396: “Topic in Media-Social Media Campaigns,” a course offered by the Department of Communication and Media, were given the opportunity to also earn the certificate simultaneously with the course work.
The certification program developed by HubSpot, a leading company in inbound, online and social media marketing, is free to use. The certificate program is used in courses at other universities and is popular among professionals.
“Quite a few students were thankful for the opportunity to earn a professional certificate and excited that they passed it,” said Qingjiang Yao, associate professor in the Department of Communication and Media.
Before taking the certificate test, students had to take four weekly tests that Yao created but that were based on the HubSpot course. The students were also given additional assignments to help them gain the certificate. They were required to read about techniques of effectively posting on social media and post discussions about the required readings. They were also assigned to create three mini campaigns on Facebook, Twitter and LinkedIn. Students also had to post discussions and results about the mini campaign activities. And lastly, students pursuing the certificate were challenged to create a brief social media campaign plan for a fictitious client.
One online student posted, “I'm glad I passed and had the opportunity to learn everything in both the HubSpot and your online course. All very fun and memorable!”
