Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Celebration

Please join the LU Office of Strategic Initiatives as we celebrate the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. The guest speaker is Judge Naomi Showers Doyle. The theme is "Embracing the Dream: Empowering the Next Generation." Everyone is welcome to attend.

Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Day of Service

The purpose of the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Day of Service is to encourage all Americans to volunteer to improve their communities. Holocaust Portraits of Survival

Date(s): Monday, Jan. 22 through Friday, Jan. 26, 8 a.m. - 5 p.m.
Location: Mary & John Gray Library Lobby

In commemoration of International Holocaust Remembrance Day, The LU Office of Strategic Initiatives is hosting Portraits of Survival which features modern day portraits of Holocaust survivors. Next to each photo is a card telling the survivor’s story and how they came to rebuild their life.

Volunteers Needed to Address Homelessness

Date: Thursday, Jan. 25, 7:00 a.m. - 8:30 p.m.
Location: Beaumont, Port Arthur, Orange, Kountze

Point-In-Time (PIT) Count is a single-day event to gather data on needs of individuals and families experiencing homelessness in Southeast Texas. In partnership with the Southeast Texas Regional Planning Commission, we seek data collection volunteers for PIT Day. Faculty and student participation is encouraged. Training provided. Join LU LEAD Today

Deadline: Friday, Jan. 19, 5 p.m.

LU LEAD Leadership Certificate Program helps students develop leadership, teamwork, public speaking, and communication skills, and connect with other students and staff. It's a great way to grow as a person and a leader on campus. Participants also receive cords for graduation. by Friday, Jan. 19.

Volunteer Income Tax Assistance Program Seeking Volunteers

Deadline: Saturday, Jan. 20

The Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program is looking for student volunteers for the 2024 tax preparation sites on campus and the Neighborhood Resource Center on Gulf Street in Beaumont. The VITA program is a free program that provides tax filing to individuals who had a total household income of $64,000 or less during 2023. VITA is also seeking IRS-certified tax preparers. Certification clases will be held on the LU campus on Saturday, Jan. 20. Please contact the LU Office of Strategic Initiatives at (409) 880-7169 for more information.

LU Center for Resiliency Welcomes 2024 Summit Participants

Deadline: Saturday, Jan. 20, 2024, 5 p.m.

The 91制片厂 Center for Resiliency hosts an annual Research Summit, and we are now accepting presentation abstracts across all colleges. We are searching for moderators, panelists and presenters. If interested, please contact Teressa Robertson via email at teressa.robertson@lamar.edu.

Registration Open for Thesis Dissertation Workshop

Deadline: Friday, Feb. 2, 12:00 p.m.

Students in their final thesis or dissertation course must register for a brief asynchronous workshop provided by the LU College of Graduate Studies. Complete the form at the linked website so we can be in touch with you and assist with finalization of a document ready for required ProQuest publication.

Graduate Research Conference Deadline Extended

Deadline: Thursday, Feb. 15, 12:00 p.m.

The deadline is extended to Feb. 15 for submissions to the Graduate Research Conference to be held on March 28 in the Setzer Center. The conference will focus on AI, but there are open topics and sessions from all fields of inquiry.

LU Fellowships
Center for History and Culture Accepting Applications for Research/Creative Fellowships

Deadline: Friday, March 1, 11:59 p.m.

The Center for History and Culture encourages applications from any discipline or creative field, for fellowships up to $5,000. We are especially interested in work that considers our core region or situates it within broader national or global contexts.
