Abstract

Dr. Seidi's research integrates diverse domains within advanced manufacturing, including additive manufacturing, material characterization, finite element analysis, material deformation, solid-state coating deposition, and artificial intelligence. Additionally, he has experience in multibody system dynamics and biomedical device engineering. His Ph.D. research, supported by General Motors, the National Science Foundation, and the Office of Naval Research, introduced a novel approach to solid-state metal deposition called lateral friction surfacing (LFS). This method significantly improved the quality and efficiency of metallic coatings, demonstrating advancements in surface engineering by improving corrosion performance. He is also collaborating closely with researchers at General Motors, which has led to the development of a novel approach for assessing material anisotropy in formability using digital image correlation (DIC) technology. Moreover, in various research projects, he integrates artificial intelligence to enhance efficiency and optimize manufacturing processes. His interdisciplinary research, supported by collaborations with academic and industrial partners, positions his work to contribute to the advancement of manufacturing technologies. He also has years of experience in teaching as a mentor, instructor assistant, lecturer, and assistant professor, covering both fundamental and advanced topics in mechanical engineering.
