Deaf Education M.S.

Our Master of Science in deaf education is a teacher training program that is certified by the (CED). Our graduates are eligible for professional certification through CED. Graduates may also apply for state licensure as a teacher of Deaf/hard of hearing students in early childhood through 12th grade.

The M.S. in deaf education is now located in Austin at Texas School for the Deaf (TSD) and the program offers classes on TSD campus.

Our program welcomes Deaf and hearing graduate students. Since our inception, we have supported and advocated for Deaf teachers in the classroom. Visit LU's Accessibility Resource Center website for information on support services.

Program Requirements

  1. Maintain a 3.0 GPA throughout the master's program.
  2. A minimum of 36 hours are required for graduation. Additional courses may be required for certification as per candidate specialization.
  3. View in LU's online catalog.
  4. Graduate students are required to be fluent in American Sign Language and must complete a minimum of 12 weeks of supervised student teaching in deaf education within the state of Texas.

Admission Requirements

  1. Complete admissions application online through the Apply Texas (Visit LU's graduate admissions website for additional information.)
  2. Submit official transcripts from each college or university attended, including the accredited institution from which the applicant has earned a bachelor's degree.
  3. A GPA of 3.0 or higher is required.
  4. Take the GRE. Applicants must meet the admission standard according to the formula (GPA X 50) + (GRE Verbal+Quantitative) is equal or greater than 428. The GRE is offered through the LU Career and Testing Center. All applicants must have the Educational Testing Service submit GRE scores directly to 91制片厂.
  5. Provide evidence of American Sign Language competency based on the ASL-PI.
  6. Provide three letters of support.
  7. Complete an interview with DSDE faculty.
