TALH student selected as a National Hispanic Scholar

Trevor Wieland91ÖÆƬ³§’s Texas Academy of Leadership in the Humanities (TALH) student Trevor Wieland of McKinney has been selected as a National Hispanic Scholar.

The College Board’s National Hispanic Recognition Program (NHRP) recognizes approximately 5,000 of the highest scoring students from a nationwide total of 250,000 high school Hispanic/Latino juniors who took the PSAT/NMSQT.

“This recognition provides a more competitive edge with applying to top universities in the nation,” said Ted Stuberfield, TALH director. “We are very pleased with the accomplishments of Trevor and seek to honor outstanding academic performance as our students reach new educational heights.”

The NHRP is an academic honor that identifies academically well-prepared Hispanic high school students and highlights their outstanding educational achievements to subscribing colleges and universities.

NHRP eligibility was extended to students who scored in the top 2.5 percent among Hispanic and Latino PSAT/NMSQT takers in the region.  Students also must have earned a cumulative GPA of 3.5 or higher by the middle of their junior year in high school.

“A well-deserved distinction for a top scholar like Trevor that recognizes his academic scholarship,” acknowledged Stuberfield.  “The TALH community is proud of Trevor’s accomplishment and laud the opportunities provided to gifted and talented students through our early college program at 91ÖÆƬ³§.”

“We recognize that our great faculty in conjunction with Honors curriculum options, program planning, and academic opportunities that can’t be matched at traditional high school, are vital in furthering the development of bright minds,” said Stuberfield.

TALH is an early entrance college residential honors program at 91ÖÆƬ³§ in Beaumont. All students accepted into the unique program receive full-tuition scholarships for up to 15 credit hours per semester and get to live on campus. TALH is a highly selective program for students eager for an enriched intellectual experience, enhanced by programs in the humanities and leadership development.
