Free family fun - Gladys City Live

Have you visited the museum and it seems too quiet? Have you been in the Log Cabin Saloon and wondered what it would be like to order a drink from the bar? Gladys City Live on May 4 is your chance. Bring out your family and interact with characters from the past as well as go shopping in many of the buildings.

“This is our second year for Gladys City Live,” Director Troy Gray said. “We had to bring it back after last year’s Gladys City Liveevent proved to be loads of fun for everyone.”

Visitors can give a donation and receive 1901 money in return. They will be able to spend this money throughout the city as well as witness scenes that would have taken place in Gladys City in the middle of the boomtown era. Visitors will be able to take away a sense of what life was like after oil was struck at Spindletop. Things for sale will include bandanas in the dry goods store, coffee samples from TexJoy and candy in the general store, ice cream from HEB in the drug store and more.

This event is scheduled for May 4 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. The gusher will go off at 12 p.m. and at 2 p.m. The event is free (besides the donation given for 1901 money).

Spindletop-Gladys City Boomtown is a replica of the boomtown that grew up around the Spindletop oil fields in the early 1900s. Located on US 69 at Jimmy Simmons Blvd in Beaumont, the museum is open Tues. – Sat. 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Sun. 1 p.m. to 5 p.m.
