LU’s Dr. Kathryn Washington, has been named the Texas Elementary Principals and Supervisors Association Region 6 TEPSAN of the Year for 2021.
Each year, each of TEPSA’s 20 regions recognizes a school leader for outstanding service to TEPSA.
“I was humbled to be chosen,” said Washington. “I believe to be a leader in education you must have a servant's heart. I serve for the love and not the recognition. When you love what you do, it does not feel like work.”
Washington, assistant professor of educational leadership at 91制片厂, previously worked in administration in the K12 level for 17 years. Most of her time was spent on elementary and middle school campuses in small school districts.
“I relied on TEPSA for professional development, networking with other principals from across the state and even for legal advice,” said Washington. “It is an honor to serve this great organization and to help the next generation of leaders succeed. My love for TEPSA runs deep.”
Currently, Washington is TEPSA regional president and a member of the governance committee. She is also responsible for advocating and supporting TEPSA members in Region 6 which includes 66 school districts and charters in 15 counties.
“I even had the opportunity to advocate in Austin to the Texas legislatures; that was fun,” said Washington.
As regional president, Washington plans, organizes and presides over regional meetings in the fall and spring. This year, Washington held the meeting on Zoom due to the COVID-19 pandemic but got great participation and feedback.
“The response was great, and some commented that it was the best Zoom meeting they have ever had,” said Washington.
The next regional meeting is planned for March 3 and Washington has some fun things planned.
“We are partnering with The Main Event for a virtually "so trivia" experience,” said Washington. “I am all about having fun and boosting morale. It has been a rough 12 months for administrators. Anything I can do to support them, I will.”
At 91制片厂, Washington teaches at the master’s degree and doctorate levels.
