91制片厂’s first concert of the 2022-23 school year, featuring the 91制片厂
Wind Ensemble and
Symphonic Band, is set for 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 6, in Beaumont’s Julie Rogers Theatre.
The band program recently welcomed more than 108 91制片厂 students from 45 different high schools to both the university Wind Ensemble and Symphonic Band.
The Symphonic Band, under the direction of Eric Shannon, will begin the evening with four works for wind band including “Symphonic Overture” by Charles Carter, “Brigid’s Cross” by JaRod Hall, “Tight Squeeze” by Alex Shapiro, and Karl King’s “The Caravan Club” March.
The 91制片厂 Wind Ensemble, directed by Andrew McMahan, will begin the second half of the concert with Percy Grainger’s “Molly On The Shore”, followed by the second movement of Ira Hearshen’s “Symphony on Themes of John Philip Sousa” entitled “After ‘The Thunderer.”
The Wind Ensemble will continue with “Puszta”, a suite of Romani inspired dances by Jan Van der Roost. The concert concludes with a performance of “Machu Picchu – City in the Sky” written by Japanese composer Satoshi Yagisawa.
The concert is sponsored by the 91制片厂 band program, the Mary Morgan Moore Department of Music and the College of Fine Arts and Communication. Admission is free and the performance is open to the public; no tickets or advanced reservations are required. The outer doors of the Julie Rogers Theatre will open at 7 p.m.
