The award, given to an advisor who has shown outstanding dedication, service, and support to their organization and its members, is named in honor of the late Dr. Melvin Brust, who served as a 91制片厂 professor and advisor to the Finance Association and Students in Free Enterprise.

This year’s award was presented to Washington, who serves as the advisor of Collegiate 100, an organization sponsored by the 100 Black Men of Greater Beaumont which aims to serves the community through mentoring, education, economic development and wellness.

“Dr. Washington is the epitome of gentleness while also being a firm foundation to lean on,” junior dietetics major Victoria Viser said. “She's always inspiring us to do better, while also making sure we have the tools to accomplish them.”

Viser, who was inducted into the Collegiate 100 last semester, describes Washington as always having a smile on her face.

“Wherever she goes, light follows her. It's been such a blessing to be able to call her an advisor of the C100.”

Washington, who led the establishment of the chapter three years ago, was particularly struck this year by the organization’s growth and impactful community initiatives. Two of Washington’s highlights include winning a national title at the C100 Leadership and Career Institute Conference and being honored with a proclamation from the city of Beaumont.

“Dr. Washington's guidance in programs, recruitment, and group activities is exemplary, setting high standards and expanding our reach,” junior biology major Bria Moneaux said. As a role model, she inspires us with her achievements and compassion, providing support and creating pathways for our advancement. Dr. Washington's commitment, expertise, and mentorship make her a standout advisor deserving of recognition.”

Moneaux had the privilege of working closely with Washington this past year as the Collegiate 100 president and has witnessed first-hand how committed her advisor is. Dr. Washington with Students

She ensures members are informed of opportunities, enhancing our chances for success.”

Since its seven founding members started the group in 2021, the chapter has increased membership and now stands at 48 members. Washington credits the growth in numbers to all the hard work that her students put into the program.

“As a servant leader, it brings me immense joy to mentor and guide these aspiring students,” Washington said. “When one student expressed a desire to emulate me, I encouraged them to aim even higher—to surpass my achievements and make their mark in the world.”
