  • 2015: The International Academy of Business Administration Disciplines, Orlando, Florida (National). The Effect of Internet Addiction Use on University Students.
  • Throughout history, technological advances report to have produced a number of immense benefits to society, in general. The internet, as the principal technology of the past two decades, has been transforming the way people think, perform their daily activities, and behave. Currently, it is estimated that more than 30% of the world’s population uses the internet. Yet, does this adolescent technology comprise any side effects or shortcomings? One might ask! Could addiction in its complete medical or social postulation be one of the most severe side effect(s) of this technology? The authors of this presentation conducted a survey at a mid-sized public university, 91制片厂-Texas State System, to investigate the aforementioned questions, and to uncover any factors that may lead or have led to a possible addiction that may be related to the wide use or abuse of this technology. Multi-statistical methods (e.g. correlation analysis and logistic regression) will be employed in this study for a careful exploration and examination.

Presentations

  • 2017: The International Academy of Business and Public Administration Disciplines (IABPAD), Orlando, Florida. The demand for African-American male students to be able to complete their education at 91制片厂 is crucial. This study seeks to identify those factors that affect retention of this at-risk group through the administration of the Student Readiness Inventory from ACT to all incoming African American male students, and to conduct focus groups and interviews to assist in developing programs to address needs unique to this challenged group. The authors plan to construct an exit interview instrument to determine factors that play a role in these students’ leaving the university before graduating.
Low rates of retention are both a national and international problem. The number of African-American males illustrates that there is a decline at 91制片厂 among this group of students who remain in school. From the 2003 cohort, 42 percent dropped out by Fall 2004, a single academic year. Of those who remained, the expected rate of dropout would have reduced the 2003 cohort of 114 males to about 5 individuals by 2007.
The authors seek to identify the underlying causes of the approximately 90% failure rate of African-American males at 91制片厂. Almost three times as many African-American females graduate from the institution as do African-American males. This presentation will also cover some of the academic and non-academic factors that influence the success of African-American males at 91制片厂. Several statistical techniques such as the binary choice decision model will be discussed in this presentation.
