Nutrition M.S.

The Master of Science in Nutrition is a 36-hour program that is completed 100% online. Choose one of two specializations when entering the program:  or .

The program also offers a community nutrition emphasis designed to enhance knowledge and skills of future nutritionists, dietitians and other professionals in nutrition practice, helping health care practitioners provide an integrated and cohesive approach to meeting clients' needs.

The online M.S. degree bridges the gap between formal education and professional practice as it prepares the program graduate to be a powerful part of the solution to nutrition challenges.

The program includes:

  • Three hours in nutrition research
  • Six hours in nutrition and metabolism
  • 15 hours in community and lifecycle nutrition
  • Nine hours in contemporary nutrition
  • Tree hours in a capstone experience

Registered dietitian nutritionists (RDN) can receive up to six hours graduate credit toward program requirements. Proof of current RDN registration must be provided to the program director after acceptance to receive credit for the following courses: 

  • NUTR 5309 – The Energy Nutrients
  • NUTR 5332 – Vitamins & Minerals
Please Note: This master's degree does not provide the requirements for the Didactic Program in Dietetics, provide eligibility to apply to a dietetic internship, nor eligibility to sit for the National Registration examination to become a Registered Dietitian Nutritionist.

  • Apply innovations in nutrition science and evidence-based nutrition guidelines, using a community nutrition focus
  • Interpret evidence-based scientific information to enable clients to make informed decisions
  • Incorporate evidence-based practice, apply research principles, and utilize critical thinking skills in practice
  • Implement nutrition education and counseling at the individual and community levels
  • Evaluate and use nutrition in the treatment of various health conditions (e.g., obesity, eating disorders, life cycle issues, sports nutrition)
  • Demonstrate cultural competence to integrate healthy food choices into diverse food patterns
  • Design nutrition projects that can be implemented based on their expertise and knowledge
  • Apply adaptive skills in the workplace including leadership, flexibility, maturity, dedication, dependability and enthusiasm
  • Assume key roles in a variety of public and private settings, including community and public health, education and research, business and industry, wellness, and media

Career Opportunities

Through the completion of the 91制片厂 M.S. in nutrition program, graduates will be poised to become agents of change within the state and nation.

Job opportunities include being managers, researchers, educators, advocates and directors who can provide leadership in creating and implementing programs and policies concerning nutrition. Also, courses throughout the program expose students to career opportunities.

The program culminates with a capstone course where students are provided opportunities for in-depth career explorations in their area of interest. Graduates will leave the program with a complete portfolio demonstrating the skills and knowledge acquired.
